Call for Expression of Interest to Join Gender Rebels Board of Directors
Gender Rebels Company Limited by Guarantee is seeking expressions of interest from dedicated individuals to join our Board of Directors and fill a number of vacancies. We are hoping to fill the current director membership roles:
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Board Member(s)
We are also particularly interested in hearing from individuals with experience in the following areas:
- Fundraising: To help the company solicit donations and apply for funding to promote our main mission.
- Charity & NGO Governance: To ensure we operate in full compliance with the Companies Act 2014 and in application of charity status, the Charities Act 2009.
- Communications: To help raise awareness of the issues affecting our community and make known the services of the company.
As an organisation dedicated to serving the transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming communities, we welcome applications from all community members and allies. In our commitment to inclusive governance, we strongly encourage applications from individuals representative of under-served groups in the Irish population.
Traits and Skills of a Gender Rebels Director
The following traits and skills are beneficial for members of the Gender Rebels board:
- A passion to support Gender Rebels’ mission: the relief of poverty and the promotion of the education and welfare of the LGBTI+ community by enabling transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming adults to participate fully in Ireland’s social, economic, cultural, political and artistic life.
- A strong sense of respect and a collaborative approach when working with others.
- Curiosity and an open-minded approach to new ideas and challenges.
- Dependability and reliability in fulfilling commitments.
- A willingness and ability to devote the required time to the board’s duties.
- Integrity, honesty, and an ethical approach to leadership.
- An understanding of the responsibilities of being a board member and how individual actions may reflect on the organisation.
Furthermore, as a board composed entirely of volunteers, it is vital that our organisation has a broad mix of specialist skills and lived experience to ensure we are running effectively. These skills may include finance, digital skills, fundraising, charity and NGO governance, communications, Irish law, or other valuable skills you can contribute.
Commitment and Responsibilities
Board membership is a voluntary, unpaid position. Directors may be reimbursed for reasonable out-of-pocket expenses incurred in connection with their duties.
Directors are asked to be available for at least one board meeting per month as well as for the Annual General Meeting (AGM). In addition, directors are invited to support community events during the year and may participate in sub-committee work. This amounts to approximately 8 hours of volunteer time per month.
All new board members will receive a full induction and the necessary information to support them in their role. We aim to make joining the board as accessible as possible. We recommend that interested individuals familiarise themselves with the general responsibilities associated with being a Company Limited by Guarantee Non-Profit organisation director in Ireland before applying.
